Approached by a Swiss coffee technology company, Rotalink was tasked with developing a specialist Gearmotor to grind the coffee beans. The customer has been producing premium machines for over 40 years and needed a high-quality solution for a next-generation coffee grinder that would stand the test of time.

The final application & solution
We have significant experience in producing Gearmotors for the food sector. This project presented a unique set of challenges that our design team overcame with an excellent and intuitive solution.
Known for its reputation for producing machines of superior quality, the Swiss company designed an innovative coffee grinder from which required the Gearmotor to be hung by its output shaft. The gear casing was totally unsupported in this application. This design makes maintenance straightforward and deadens noise as the vibrating gearcase is held separately from the rest of the machine.
Rotalink had to provide a gearbox able to handle heavy loads at high speed, withstand the shock of the grinder being blocked by a stray stone, and run quietly and support the complex custom shaft needed to make the grinder design work. Perfecting this product was one of our most challenging projects, requiring the use of a complex "helical" gear form. The end result was a Gearmotor that perfectly met the customer's requirements.
