One of the world's leading producers of beds for use in healthcare situations were looking for an AC gearmotor for one of their latest products. From their European base of operations, their products are supplied globally to over one hundred different countries.
As well as producing specialist beds, they also create a range of other products used in the healthcare sector including furniture, mobile equipment and mattresses. We were requested to provide an AC gearmotor that would be suitable for the rotating valves within their specialist mattresses. The client wanted the motor to be built with longevity and consistency in mind.

The final application & solution
Our AC gearmotors are used in a range of different applications within the healthcare sector. This project required a gearmotor that was able to give a steady pattern while also providing fantastic longevity.
The AC gearmotors were to be used within mattresses that were specially designed to prevent or alleviate bed sores. The mattresses look very much like a sturdier version of an air bed; however, the in-built technology works to take the pressure away from different areas of a patient's body so giving time for the different areas to heal.
The mattress works by air being diverted into different areas of the mattress through rotating valves. The valves required AC gearmotors that were able to provide a steady pattern, which our 4116 AC motor was able to deliver. This then worked in conjunction with the SYB3520 stepper motor, which follows a bespoke program designed for the individual patient. The mattress is a key example of our motors being used in a product that truly improves someone's quality of life.
